What is the Simple Present used for?

The Simple Present is used for:

* Habits or routines

I wake up at 7 am.

* General facts or universal truths

The sun rises in the east.

* Likes and preferences

She likes pizza.

* Fixed schedules

The bus leaves at 6.

Structure

Affirmative

Subject + base form of the verb

Except with he / she / it, where you add -s, -es, or -ies to the verb.

Examples:

* I play soccer.

* She plays soccer.


★ Negative

Don’t / Doesn’t + base form of the verb

I don’t like coffee.

He doesn’t like coffee.

(No “-s” on the verb when using doesn’t)
